# Targeting

Targeting decides which channels your ad can appear in. You set it in **Step 3** of campaign creation, and you can adjust it later by editing the campaign.

## Telegram channel category (required)

Pick one or more categories. Your ad will only appear in channels that match them. This is the main lever for relevance — choose the categories your audience actually follows.

## Advanced targeting (optional)

A toggle that lets the algorithm **expand reach to related categories** where your ad is likely to perform well. Turn it on if you want more volume and are comfortable appearing in adjacent topics; keep it off for the tightest control.

## Banned categories (optional)

Categories where your ad should **never** appear, regardless of the above. Use this to keep your brand away from contexts you don't want.

## Geography (optional)

Limit delivery to specific countries. Leave it empty to run globally.

## Language (optional)

Limit delivery to channels in specific languages. Leave it empty to run across all languages.

## Tips

* Start broad with a few relevant categories, then narrow once you see which ones perform.
* Use **Geography** when your offer is region-specific (for example, a local service or a country-restricted product).
* Combine **Banned categories** with a broad category selection to get reach while excluding what you don't want.

Changing targeting on a live campaign restarts moderation and removes currently running ads. See [Moderation & editing](/docs/for-advertisers/moderation.md).
